Alfred Hitchcock was a true master of cinema, of this there is no doubt. The book Hitchcock/Truffaut, first published in 1967, is required reading in most film schools for a reason; these interviews between New Wave director/film critic François Truffaut and Hitchcock offer invaluable insights into filmmaking, as well as giving us a look into the thoughts of one of film’s greatest writer/directors.
The new documentary, also titled Hitchcock/Truffaut, uses those interviews as a basis for an insightful look into Hitchcock’s film career, by using audio from those very sessions as well as interviews with modern filmmakers including Wes Anderson, Peter Bogdanovich, David Finhcer, Richard Linklater, Martin Scorsese, and others. Hitchcock is one of the most influential filmmakers of all time, and Hitchcock/Truffaut, directed by Kent Jones, aims to use the man’s own words to show us why even now he’s still relevant and ever-present. This film is a must for any Cinefile.
Hitchcock/Truffaut is scheduled for release on December 2nd.
