Do you watch so much TV and Movies that you essentially know what’s going to happen? Do you basically watch something to prove to yourself that you knew you’d be right about it? Do your friends constantly ask you what’s going to happen about a movie that hasn’t even been released yet based on your track record of always being right? Or maybe you’re really good at selling your point, and if you’re wrong it’s usually still pretty interesting. Then you’re probably like me and come up with some pretty good Fan Theories.
So let me share my latest theory: Spider-Man will be in Captain America: Civil War.
The big rumors say that he’s confirmed for Avengers Infinity War. I recently read an article on MoviePilot.com by Jim Galizia, where he explains how Spider-Man will be brought into the movie without having to go through another origin story. Check it out HERE.
There’s a lot to the piece and it also tied in the Spider-Verse to explain what Spidey’s up to, as to not just have him drifting through time, but I can’t explain every point (you should read it it though, it’s great). To sum it up, Spider-Man was always in the MCU and he was one of heroes Fury first approached and recruited. He appears around the time Iron Man 2 and Hulk happen, and ends up saving a frozen Cap from Kang the Conqueror, then will be rescued by Stephen Strange at Fury’s Request.
I really like this theory, it gave me a total nerdgasm. It’s very well thought out, intricate, and well tied in to the events in the MCU. It would make total sense that Spider-Man was there the whole time, as well as Dr. Strange. In the first Iron Man movie, Fury showed up and asked “Do you think you’re the only hero?” (that’s probably not word for word). So it would mean Spidey was approached and accepted, and Strange was approached and declined. That would also explain why Stephen Strange is known by SHIELD, Hyrda, and Agent Sitwell. Also the inclusion of Kang and time traveller would be a nice set up for Phase 4 and beyond. If it were the comics, I would be 100% in agreement.
Why I don’t think it will work: Spidey is not likely to do black ops missions or join a secret organization that isn’t known. In the Ultimate renditions of Spidey, TV and Comics, he does work with Nick Fury, but that’s because he knows of how great and grand SHIELD and the Ultimates (Avengers) are. Also the inclusion of Kang is extremely complicated, as is the Spider-Verse.
Now for my theory: Spider-Man will be in Captain America Civil War
Spider-Man MCU back story:
Amazing Spider-Man 1 & 2 still happened. They happen around the time of Iron Man 1. After Gwen’s death, and when Peter gets back into the suit to take out Mech Suit Rhino, he continues to be a hero but becomes reclusive. Minus the “Friendly Neighborhood” notes and his pictures in the bugle, no one really sees Spidey. However, during the Chituari invasion, there is tons of footage of Spidey saving a bunch of people and taking down a a good amount of Chitauri. The footage has gone viral and starts to turn Spider-Man into a legend; the human spider who shows up to help anyone and everyone, then vanishes before anyone can say thanks. (Footage and mention of all this will be played out in Civil War)
Age of Ultron:
We see the divide between Cap and Iron Man beginning. Hulk will lose control in order to beat Ultron. Stark enacts his Hulk contingency plan (Hulk Buster) to stop him. Hulk gets sent into space, which is why he won’t be in Infinity War part 1. Because of the Hulk Buster, it is revealed Iron Man has contingency plans for every hero “just in case.” The rift has been created, and will play out in Civil War.
Agents of SHIELD:
Terrigenisis happens at the end of season 2. Season 3 is about dealing with Inhumans popping up all over the place. Some Inhumans become good, some become bad, and some try to exploit it. The New Warriors are formed, creating their online show of being super heroes and bounty hunting bad guys. They accidentally set off a bad one named “Nitro” who blows up a school. The news goes crazy, and the government believes it is time to regulate heroes.
Civil War:
The news of government super hero regulation is all over, as well as latest updates on “The Spider-Man.” Cap is asked to lead the movement, declines and becomes a fugitive and leader of the anti-registration movement. Cap basically takes everyone but War Machine and Vision. Iron Man, already publicly known needs a face for the registration act. To prove that it’s a good thing to register, Iron Man brings in the most notorious and reclusive hero to reveal himself… Spider-Man
Why it could work:
If it plays out like this, not only does it save the Sony Franchise without having to reboot, but it also follows a very logical order and would explain why there is an older Peter Parker. This would take nothing away from the Sony franchise other than Andrew Garfield. This way, there is no need for retelling an origin story, or explaining why he hasn’t been around. It would also play to the big parts of Civil War in the comics. Granted it won’t have the same impact as it did in the comics, unless it still is Garfield, but it would be an easy write in and explanation. Also Civil war doesn’t start shooting until April, so there’s plenty of time.
The deal is said to be done according to Latino Review (I want to have their sources), with Spider-Man to lead the Avengers team in Avengers Infinity War. But would they really give the leader role to someone without a reputation? With no Spider-Man movie set to come out before Infinity War, dropping him in Civil War, making him the guy for Iron Man then later Cap, would explain why he’s destined to be the leader.
I know the “deals” are all said to be done, but with the Russo Brothers going to co-produce Spider-Man and Sony desperately wanting to make the franchise work, this would boost their reputation and build hype for their upcoming projects. But mainly, I want to see Iron Spider!
That’s my theory and why I think Spider-Man will be in Civil War. Let me know what you think.

Interesting theory, but I’m pretty sure all of those sources are wrong. Sony is not giving Spidey back this easily.
