It’s not about cursing! Well… to a degree and depending on which way you look at it but Who knew?! Maybe the readers since issue #1 did but that’s besides the point. Curse Words is an interesting, high energy comic. Following our main character, An Evil Wizard who rises to fame and fortune who turns good, is now in for the fight of his life. From Writer Charles Soule (Swamp Thing, Death Of Wolverine) and artist Ryan Browne (God Hates Astronauts), the last issue of the story arc entitled, The Devil’s Devil is far beyond interesting. Let’s get into a brief summary:

The Devil’s Devil, Conclusion: “It’s finally the final battle between Wizord and the next evil assassin sent to destroy him—his ex, the hyper-powered Ruby Stitch (a witch). The wizardly combat in this one… SPECTACULAR. The twist ending that flips the whole series on its head? EVEN BETTER.” -ImageComics.com

Let’s breakdown the art a little bit. The illustration was a sight for sore eyes as at times, felt inconsistent between panels. On the other hand, Ryan Browne’s art felt very natural for this comic as his work belonged to this story. Yes, it had flaws but this world you’re submerging yourself into known as Curse Words is a outside the box kind of story. So why not have that with the art too? People that have collected this comic from the beginning are use to it but first time readers maybe dishearten. You should still keep reading and attempt to look past this flaw if you can.

Now let’s talk about writing. Come on, is there any stopping the amazing Charles Soule?! Not only does this comic go far out there with a talking Koala, dragons and more. It also does what a good story should always do, it brings you in and leaves you asking for more. The entertainment level is as powerful as our Wizord (yes, I spelled this correctly) you’re reading about. Not only that, but this issue sets you up perfectly for stories to come.

All in all, Curse Words is a comic you want to read when you’re tired of superheroes and want to dive into a fresh world that is easy to understand. It’ll make you laugh and question why we can’t have more original stories like this one. With only 5 issues in, you should try to collect all of them before reading #5. If not, wait for the trade and head on to your comic shops to get this on your pull list for #6.
