After months of speculation Marvel has officially announced that Ryan Coogler will direct Black Panther. Hot off the heels of his critically acclaimed Rocky spin-off, Creed, the announcement comes from marvel.com that the award-winning director will be taking a trip to the fictional nation of Wakanda alongside star Chadwick Boseman.
“We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family,” said producer Kevin Feige. “The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct ‘Black Panther.’ Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bring T’Challa’s story to life.”
Boseman will make his first appearance as T’Challa in Captain America: Civil War on May 6th before his first solo adventure in 2018. Coogler is a perfect choice to direct, and for anyone who has seen Creed or his first award-winning film Fruitvale Station you likely agree. And if you haven’t seen them, what are you waiting for?
Black Panther hits theaters on February 16th, 2018.
