Tonight Combate Americas, the premiere Hispanic Mixed Martial Arts organization featured Combate Americas: Camino a Copa Combate live from California State University, Long Beach. In Long Beach, California.
Tonight’s bout featured in the featherweight division, Erick “The Ghostpepper” Gonzalez (8-2) faced off against Andres “The Bullet” Quintana (14-2) as each man sets out to represent the United States in the Copa Combate. Also on tonight’s card, vying to represent Mexico in the Copa Combate, Pablo “El Gallo Negro” Sabori (8-4) took on Alejandro “El Gallito” Flores (12-1) in another one, five-minute round fight.
Here are tonight’s main card results as follow:
Featherweight (145lbs): Pablo Sabori (8-4-0) vs Alejandro Flores (12-1-0)
The winner of this one, five-minute round will represent Mexico in the Copa Combate one-night tournament. Sabori leads with a couple of front kicks, but Flores answers with a stomp to the knee before getting driven back to the cage. Sabori is looking for the throw while having to do with Flores’ dirty boxing. Now it is Flores who as cage control, sweeping Sabori to the canvas but rode too high on his back allowing Sabori to stand up. Flores knocks Sabori down, but chances in too hard ending up in Sabori’s guard as the downed fighter looks from a triangle choke.
Your winner by unanimous and going on to represent the Mexico in the 2018 Copa Combate is Alejandro Flores!
Strawweight (115lbs): Francis Hernández (3-2-0) vs Melissa Martinez (4-0-0)
Round One: This one is a feeling out period, until Martinez throws a single leg kick, which Hernandez catches and takes advantage of with a takedown and ground-and-pound before they stand back up in the center of the cage. Martinez lands a liver kick and Hernandez is out!

Co-Main Event – Featherweight (145lbs): Erick González (8-2-0) vs Andres Quintana (14-2-0)
The winner of this one, five-minute round will represent the United States in the Copa Combate one-night tournament. There’s no time for a feeling out period as Gonzalez throws a teep kick. Quintana throws a single head kick that doesn’t land flush, and gets taken down, but he’s back up quick and takes Gonzalez’s back with a body triangle and a rear naked chock position. Gonzalez swims his way out into Quintana’s guard and eventually stands up but is swept back to the canvas, locks in a rear naked choke and this one is over!
Your winner by rear naked choke at 2:41 and going on to represent the United States in the 2018 Copa Combate is Andres Quintana!
The Main Event – Featherweight (145lbs): Gaston Reyno (7-2-0) vs Carlos Ochoa (3-5-0)
Round One: Ochoa drives Reyno to the cage but gets taken down in his efforts. Reyno takes Ochoa’s back but Ochoa spins out into Reyno’s guard and stands up against the cage, swinging. The two continue to change positions against the cage looking for control and only the last turn around, Ochoa feeds Reyno a left hook that floors him, but didn’t finish him. Reyno is still alive but for how long?
Ochoa takes Reyno’s back on the ground, but they switch positions, Reyno flattens him out and gets the rear naked choke victory!
