Now that it’s the new year we can all get geared up for the latest set of heroics from Marvel Studios, and the superhero studio is kicking off their 2018 by amplifying the hype for Ryan Coogler’s adaptation of the classic Marvel character Black Panther. Chadwick Boseman reprises his role that first graced the screen in Captain America: Civil War and is joined by an all-star cast that includes Lupita N’yong’o, Michael B. Jordan, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Forrest Whittaker, and Andy Serkis.
Today brings a new featurette about the long road to bring T’Challa to the screen. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige is joined by Chadwick Boseman and the legendary Stan Lee to give those uninitiated to the world of Wakanda a starter’s course on the character and his 50-year history in the pages of Marvel Comics. For those well-versed in the world of Wakanda, this little feature provides us with a few new looks at the footage from the film, but not a lot of new footage.
On top of everything else, it was just recently announced that Kendrick Lamar will be curating and producing an album for Black Panther. “I am honored to be working with such an incredible artist whose work has been so inspirational, and whose artistic themes align with those we explore in the film. I can’t wait for the world to hear what Kendrick and TDE have in store,” said Coogler in a press release.
In the same press release, Kendrick Lamar added, “Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director. The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. I’m truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside Ryan and Marvel’s vision.”
Expectations are running high for Black Panther to make a splashy solo debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and all eyes will be on Wakanda when Ryan Coogler brings Black Panther to the screen February 16, 2018.
