The Australian teaser trailer for Disney’s fairy tale mash-up “Into the Woods” has dropped, along with an updated opening day. It’s pretty long for a teaser too, with new, as yet unseen, footage. The film is based upon the Tony award-winning Broadway musical written by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim, who adapted their own play for the big screen version, even creating a new song or two.
According to Disney – “ “Into the Woods” is a humorous and heartfelt musical”. I didn’t get any of that from this trailer, as it looked like a fairly dark movie to me, and not a very groundbreaking one in terms of subject matter for Disney, but this IS just a teaser. It looks like it was filmed rather well, with great costuming and sets, and has some interesting casting choices. I’ll see it simply for James Corden.
Starring Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, James Corden, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, and Tracey Ullman, amongst others, “Into the Woods” is a humorous and heartfelt musical that follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family, and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them.
INTO THE WOODS opens in theaters in the US on January 1st, 2015.
