First we had American Sniper. Then we had American Crime Story. Just recently we had American Honey. Now it’s time for American Assassin, the new film from Kill the Messenger director Michael Cuesta based on the best-selling novel by Vince Flynn.
In American Assassin, Dylan O’Brien stars as Mitch Rapp, a young man whose life is forever changed following a horrific event. He’s then recruited by CIA liaison Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) and trained by Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton) to hunt down the terrorists behind a series of attacks.
Appropriately enough, the trailer for American Assassin plays it rather close to the vest, obscuring the role of Taylor Kitsch among many other things. To unravel the mystery of American Assassin you won’t need to wait to file a Freedom of Information Act request. You’ll simply have to wait until it blasts into theaters on September 15th, 2017.
The official synopsis for American Assassin:
AMERICAN ASSASSIN follows the rise of Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien) a CIA black ops recruit under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). The pair is then enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets. Together the three discover a pattern in the violence leading them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) intent on starting a World War in the Middle East.
