Here we are again, staring down a national disgrace. The time-honored tradition of adequate puns in the titles of our sequels to Alvin and the Chipmunks has been thrown to the wayside. Why? Because creativity is dead – just ask Donald Trump or Dustin Hoffman. As we mourn, however, the latest trailer for Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip is there place salt in our wounds as we grow more and more nostalgic for the cleverness of a Squeakquel.
While Jason Lee returns as Dave, likely to pay off some massive gambling debt, there’s no word on whether or not The Road Chip will continue the baffling tradition of having the titular Chipmunks voiced by celebrities. Directed by Walt Becker, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip burns rubber down the highway of inadequate puns on December 23rd, 2015.

Through a series of misunderstandings, Alvin, Simon and Theodore come to believe that Dave is going to propose to his new girlfriend in New York City…and dump them. They have three days to get to him and stop the proposal, saving themselves not only from losing Dave but possibly from gaining a terrible stepbrother.
