Over the course of his career Brian De Palma has often been compared to Hitchcock. His 1973 movie for American International Pictures (AIP), Sisters, was the first of De Palma’s Hitchcockian films, complete with a soundtrack by Bernard Hermann. When a reporter witness a murder in a neighbor’s apartment, she begins an investigation into the culprit and the cause. With Margot Kidder, Charles Durning, Jennifer Salt, and William Finley (The Phantom himself!), Sisters shows the early strengths of De Palma, and culminates with an extended freak out sequence.
